Teamfront’s secret to scaling field services: Embedded payments that just work

Field service businesses are complex. From pest control to tree care, every business operates differently—and for Teamfront that meant a tangled web of payment systems.

As a private equity-backed group uniting best-in-class field service SaaS solutions, Teamfront inherited a patchwork of payment providers, integrations, and support models across its portfolio. They needed a unified, scalable strategy, and a partner to help bring it to life. That’s where Adyen came in.

“Recurring revenue only comes by way of payments in this embedded solution,” said Joshua Shultz, Vice President of Payments at Teamfront. “It’s the key to unlocking a better customer experience, and a significant opportunity to grow our revenue.”

Solving for scale

Teamfront grows by acquiring and scaling field service SaaS businesses like Floorzap (flooring), ServiceMonster (carpet cleaning and pressure washing), Fieldster (pest control), and Arborgold (landscaping and arborists). But with each acquisition came a new tangle of payments infrastructure.

“We had five or six integrated payment partners and it was incredibly difficult to manage,” Joshua explained. “We weren’t getting to any relative scale, and we couldn’t provide a consistent experience to our customers.”

This fragmentation made it difficult to centralize support, optimize pricing, or scale internal processes. Adyen offered a way to standardize payments across the Teamfront portfolio through a single integration and one relationship, cutting complexity and boosting margins.

“Now, instead of managing a hodgepodge of vendors, we manage one relationship. That lets us build internal support, streamline onboarding, and get smarter about ticketing and customer service.”

Speed, service, and seamless integration

Teamfront needed to move fast and delays weren’t an option.

“The technology is bulletproof,” Joshua said. “The integration took less than three months. That was critical for us. We were doing four implementations at once.”

But tech alone wasn’t enough. Embedded onboarding and integrated support tools gave Teamfront full control over customer relationships , removing the need for them to call one provider for software and another for payments.

“We didn’t need a team of 40 payments experts to do this, we had the right tools and the right partner", Joshua explained. "Adyen guided us through every step, from contracting to our first merchant, and beyond.”

Supporting modern field services

Payments in field services rarely happen in an office, and increasingly are a contactless experience.

“A lot of what surprised us was how card-not-present the space is,” Joshua noted. “You’ve got a tech in someone’s home generating an estimate, and within a few clicks, the customer pays the invoice from their phone.”

Teamfront’s platform turns estimates into an invoice instantly. Adyen powers the “click to pay” experience, including card and ACH support. The system then instantly updates in real time, triggering inventory orders, scheduling, and job confirmation.

“It creates a virtuous cycle" Joshua adds. "The merchant gets paid, the job gets scheduled, and the system keeps running. It’s a seamless experience, and that’s a huge part of our value proposition.”

Why Teamfront chose Adyen

Teamfront evaluated several options but needed a partner who could scale fast, support businesses of any size, and grow with them, and Adyen delivered. Trust also played an important role. Teamfront leadership had previously worked with Adyen and knew they’d get the partnership and support needed to succeed.

Whether it’s a $50,000 mom-and-pop pest control business or a $50 million chain, we knew Adyen could support both ends of our customer spectrum.

Teamfront's advice for other platforms: Don’t wait

When asked what advice he’d give to other platforms considering embedded payments, Joshua didn’t hesitate, “Don’t wait" he said. "Every day you delay, you’re losing dollars and retention opportunities. Embedded payments are one of the clearest ways to add value to your platform.” His second piece of advice? Own the experience. “Don’t outsource the experience," Joshua explains. "Control as much of the support and pricing as you can. Set your own rates. Set your own tone. That’s how you deliver real value.” By partnering with Adyen, Teamfront is transforming a fragmented payments setup into a scalable, strategic advantage. Today, they’re scaling faster, onboarding more efficiently, and laying the groundwork for embedded financial products, all while delivering a great customer experience.
