Adyen is the place for talented people, and our Global Recruitment Team plays a vital part in bringing those exceptional people into the fold. That’s why we went straight to the experts and asked our recruiters to share their best candidate advice and top tips for interviewing successfully at Adyen.

But first: A quick overview of our interview stages

We aim for an equitable hiring process that is rooted in the Adyen Formula. While each interview may vary slightly, the core stages below apply across all teams and regions.

  1. Application review

  2. Recruiter screen

  3. Team interview*

  4. Skills assessment

  5. Leadership interview

  6. Final interview

Candidates will be guided through each step by their recruiter, but can also explore the How We Hire page on our careers site to learn more about each step.

*For some roles, the order of step three and five will be reversed.

Embed the Adyen Formula throughout the entire process

The eight principles of the Adyen Formula guide our work, so familiarizing yourself with them is a crucial step in preparation. We’re looking for engagement with the Formula past pure memorization, and want candidates to find connections with their past experiences.

São Paulo-based Recruitment Business Partner, Larissa Sanches, stresses the importance of relating elements of the Adyen Formula to your personal lived experiences. Be sure to highlight specific instances where Formula points tie into your way of working or have been instrumental in your life.

She also encourages candidates to stay curious and ask their interviewers about the Formula from their standpoints, reassuring them that “everyone will be 100% glad to talk about it”.

Preparation is the key to nailing the skills assessment

Depending on the role you’re interviewing for, the skills assessment stage will either be a case study presentation or a technical skills test. Preparation and thoughtful, straightforward communication are key to success at this step of the process.

Amsterdam-based Recruiting Lead Deborah Desouza shares that “we really want to see how you think on your feet, and preparation goes a long way. We’ll be simulating a real-world scenario with real-world problems, so articulate how you would think through those solutions.”

She adds, “Communicating your ‘why’, and just showing us your personality will really take you a long way”.

Explain who you are as a leader

At Adyen, leadership is about more than managing teams - it’s about driving outcomes, fostering growth, and evolving the way we work. Keeping this in mind when interviewing for a leadership position on our team is a great way to anchor your interview responses.

San Francisco-based Executive and Leadership Recruiter, Matt Rum, shares that in addition to hearing about what you’ve accomplished in your career, the team also wants to learn who you are as a leader. He explains that we want to explore “how you think, how you’ve grown, and how you’ve guided others through complexity.”

Final tips

Our team wants to ensure candidates can show up as their best, most authentic self in our interview process. Part of being able to do that is feeling (and being) prepared, so be sure to:

  • Do Your Research: Understand Adyen and the role you’re interviewing for by reviewing the job description, the Adyen Formula, customer case studies, and our latest earnings report. There are tons of public resources to deep dive into, including our Knowledge Hub and LinkedIn feed!

  • Prepare and Practice: Of course, we’ll ask you questions, but it’s just as crucial that you have thoughtful questions for us! Prepare questions for your interviewers, practice communication using the STAR method, and be ready to share your motivations for wanting to join the team.

  • Leverage Your Recruiter: We’re here to help and want to see you succeed! Utilize recruiter prep calls to ask questions about what to expect, and don’t be afraid to ask for more context when needed.

Singapore-based Senior Recruitment Business Partner, Ashley Gomez, leaves candidates with one final important piece of advice: “Be honest, lead with specifics, and be a storyteller. Clear communication is essential at Adyen, so treat your interview as a conversation.”
