We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Adyen Developer Dashboard, a tool designed to empower developers to build payment integrations with the Adyen platform. This all-in-one solution streamlines the development process, providing developers and technical users with the necessary resources to build, monitor, and evolve their payment integration.

The Dashboard is integrated into the Customer Area portal, providing real time monitoring and error tracking capabilities. In this way, developers gain a visual overview of the integration, spot anomalies, and, when needed, start troubleshooting using other tools like API and Event logs.

Additionally, it provides all the necessary resources to assist developers in maintaining, optimizing, and upgrading the payment integration.

In this article... explore the Adyen Developer Dashboard and its functionalities. Learn how developers can effortlessly keep track of their payment integration, understand errors and events, and take prompt action.

Prioritizing Value: Crafting the Adyen Developer Dashboard

As developers, we are naturally drawn to new tools and trending technology. However, the initial excitement fades rapidly if these tools fail to deliver tangible value. With this mindset, we approached the design of the Adyen Developer Dashboard with a clear objective: how can we help developers?

The charm of flashy gadgets can wear off quickly if they don't address needs, solve problems, or enhance the developer experience. We started identifying critical use cases that developers regularly encounter, and then we dived into the intricacies of their workflows, highlighting pain points and challenges that demanded effective solutions.

Considering the unique challenges (security, reliability, performance) of the payments domain, we focused on functionality that directly addresses the daily hurdles developers face in payment integration. We wanted to give a clear overview of the status of the payment integration with tools and charts that highlight potential issues or changes in trends. We also deemed easy access to further contextual information and details essential in case of errors.

Use Cases

Monitoring Your Integration

The Developer Dashboard brings a new level of transparency to the integration process. Developers can monitor the performance of their integrations in real time, gaining insights into the volume and success rates of the API calls, filtering on the desired time slots, or applying a different grouping (by day or by the hour). This granular visibility ensures that developers can spot anomalies and respond swiftly.

Imagine a scenario where transaction success rates suddenly drop. With the Developer Dashboard, you can have a visual overview of the integration status at all times. Applying the available filters and groups makes it possible to pinpoint when the issue began and assess its impact.

Understanding Errors and Events

Effective troubleshooting starts with a clear understanding of errors and events occurring as shoppers perform payments. The Developer Dashboard provides an overview of the most frequent API and webhook errors, allowing one to spot issues that require attention. With this comprehensive view that aggregates errors and highlights their cardinality, developers can more easily target the problems that are more critical and must be promptly prioritized.

A surge in payment failures requires immediate attention, yet understanding what happens may take significant effort. The Developer Dashboard will help you spotlight the API calls that have failed recently, offering contextual information like the API endpoint, response status code, and transaction timestamps.

From there, you can access API Logs, where the relevant logs are pre-filtered to move to the next troubleshooting stage.

Assisting troubleshooting

When issues arise, the Developer Dashboard is a powerful diagnostic tool that can be used alongside the existing monitoring and logging infrastructure on the customer's side.

Developers can dive into the specifics from the different views (Integration Activity, Integration Errors) to start a more in-depth analysis. API and Event Logs provide the details of the requests and responses, including JSON payloads and headers. PSP references and the Request ID can be helpful to track the transactions across the platform, for example, by searching in the Transactions History screen.

A developer encounters a misconfiguration issue; for example, a specific attribute of a local payment method is incorrectly set. Instead of contacting Support, the Developer Dashboard offers the troubleshooting tools necessary to spot and rectify an issue without delay. This self-service approach reduces dependency on external support, empowering your team to resolve challenges independently.

Optimizing and Upgrade

The success of a payment integration involves ongoing optimizations. All Adyen resources, including Adyen Docs, the Adyen Developer portal, the open-source libraries, and Postman collections, are readily accessible directly from the Developer Dashboard, making it easier for developers to find the help they need.

In the future, the Developer Dashboard will also let developers know about new releases and upcoming API changes. With proactive alerting, developers will prepare for these changes, ensuring a smooth transition without impacting operational continuity.

The Developer Dashboard offers a multitude of benefits for developers integrating with the Adyen platform:

  • Striving for Self-Serviceness: The tool empowers developers with features that make them independent. Examples include reviewing account information, editing company contacts, and obtaining the Live URL prefix for processing live payments. Those capabilities are crucial for reducing reliance on external support and resolving issues quickly.

  • Focus on Robust Integrations: continuous monitoring, error tracking, and troubleshooting resources contribute to creating more robust integrations that deliver reliable payment capabilities.

  • Reduced Troubleshooting Time: Granular visibility, comprehensive error logs, and real time insights significantly reduce developers' time identifying and resolving integration issues.

  • Simplified Upgrading: Proactive alerts and recommendations ensure that developers are well-prepared for upcoming changes, facilitating the evolution of the payment integrations.

Launching the Adyen Developer Dashboard is a significant step forward in our commitment to provide developers with the essential tools for building successful integrations on the Adyen platform.

In forthcoming releases, we anticipate enhancing self-servicing and troubleshooting capabilities. However, we'll be first actively seeking feedback and ideas from developers who adopt the Developer Dashboard. So please try it now, share your thoughts with us, and let's figure out together what the next feature should be.
