Yes, Tap to Pay is highly secure because it uses dynamic encryption and tokenization for every single transaction. Payment data is never stored locally on the merchant's device, significantly reducing the risk of payment fraud compared to traditional magnetic stripe cards.

The merchant's point-of-sale (POS) system or smartphone acting as a terminal requires an active internet connection to authorize and process the transaction with the acquiring bank. However, the shopper's physical NFC card or pre-authenticated mobile wallet does not strictly need an internet connection at the exact moment they tap.
