Adyen matching new donation campaigns for the holiday season

Your how-to guide for activating donations at checkout for the holidays and availing of donation matching for November and December.

As we get ready for the holiday season, we’re reminded of the enormous potential of payments and connectivity. Every year there is a large spike in volume on the platform as people shop for their loved ones (or treat themselves) as the year comes to a close. 

Over the last number of years we’ve also seen a big spike in donation volume through Giving, our donations product. As the product has become more widely adopted at checkout by some of the world’s biggest brands, we’ve seen both increased levels of fundraising participation and increase in amounts donated at checkout during the holiday season. 

In short: it’s the season for Giving. And it’s never been easier to offer donations at checkout as an Adyen customer. 

Just in time for the holidays we’ve released our biggest update to the product yet which allows for complete autonomy over the creation and operation of donation campaigns. And in order to galvanize donations at this special time of year, Adyen will match all donations for those new to Giving during the holidays.

We’re matching donations for customers new to Giving for the holidays

From previous campaigns, we know the potential when those donating at checkout understand their donation will be doubled. With that in mind - we will match all donations for businesses new to donations at checkout. 

Last year we processed $7M in donations on the platform. These funds were raised across online and in-person retail; sports and entertainment, and everything in between. Fundraising can apply to every store / add to every checkout. To echo what Delphine Mazillier, Chief Purpose Officer at Decathlon said about offering donations at checkout: “We give them the choice. If they want to participate, they say yes. If they don't want to - they say no.” Ultimately, the customer is always in control. 

We know there’s so much more to raise via the platform - and we’ll continue to make it as quick and easy as possible for Adyen customers to activate for their customers in turn.

Testing donation campaigns 

Admins are able to experience the new Giving flow from their test account. The product will now appear in the sidebar where admins can create new donation campaigns from templates within moments. (If you’re not an admin - admins are able to grant you access and start a test donations campaign.)

Step by step for testing:

  1. In your test environment, select Giving and then Campaign templates.  

  2. Select one of the demo nonprofits you want to support and click test this campaign.

  3. Confirm the configurations shown as a summary by clicking Save.

  4. Activate in test by clicking Start campaign. You have now successfully created your first campaign.

This update is available in active Giving regions for in-store on terminals on firmware version 108 and above, and for online on checkout v67 (API, Components, and Drop-In). Please see documentation for more detail on in-store and online nuance. 

Testing is available on the test platform with a demo nonprofit for online businesses right now. Online donations take no more than a day to integrate - here’s some documentation to get started.
