With Adyen, GOL becomes the first airline to accept Pix at airports
In partnership with Adyen, GOL Airlines expands its payment system; the partnership also extends to Smiles, which now offers a smoother and more secure payment experience.
Agile payments at physical terminals are increasingly demanded by customers: transactions via Pix and contactless payments, for example, are ideal for offering more convenience to consumers - and they also help reduce queues at the counters. GOL Airlines Group and Smiles responded to this demand by adopting Adyen's payment terminals at airports.
Now, the company accepts in-person payments via Pix and contactless payments with cards and smartphones. The GOL group is undergoing a process of digitalizing its operation, and the expansion of physical payment methods is part of this strategy, aiming for increased efficiency and a better relationship with customers. The implementation also benefits customers who use Smiles, GOL's loyalty program.
"Adyen is a company with extensive experience in payment solutions, and we are confident that the partnership will be crucial to the success of this initiative. This implementation was a synergy between the GOL group and Smiles to offer a smoother and more secure payment experience for our customers."

Eduardo Bernardes, GOL's VP of Revenue, highlights that the partnership with Adyen reinforces the purpose of innovating, always with a focus on the best experience for the airline's customers. "Commercial aviation is a highly competitive and ever-changing sector, and it is essential that GOL is always seeking ways to improve its services," he says. "The adoption of new payment methods alongside a partner like Adyen is a fundamental part of this modernization."
For Maria Isabel Noronha, VP of Account Management at Adyen in Latin America, it is essential for airlines - which are part of this competitive and challenging market - to invest in technologies that provide speed and efficiency to payments, as well as providing methods that customers want to use.
"Payments are an important part of the customer experience and, at the same time, have a direct impact in business performance," says Maria Isabel. "GOL realized that it is necessary to see payments as a strategic step within operations and is already seeing results from this. Our technology will bring significant operational gains to the group."
Adyen's payment terminals are already operational at all Brazilian airports where GOL operates, such as Brasília, Congonhas, and Guarulhos in São Paulo, Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador.
Adyen technology also brings improvements to GOL's back office
Adyen not only brought more convenience and efficiency to GOL's customers but also within the company: its teams gained an easier way to deal with payments. All payments are now automatically recorded in GOL's back office, through stand-alone terminals connected via API to Adyen's platform.
Without the need for manual payment registration, the airline's teams gained speed in cash closing and reconciliation processes. There are also improvements in payment terminal management: replacement units can be requested on the same platform, with just a few clicks.
