Israel

Credit cards are the dominant payment method in Israel, followed by debit cards. Debit cards from Visa or Mastercard are popular among teenagers and are usually co-branded with a local scheme. To buy from international businesses, Israelis need to pay with Visa or Mastercard, but they don’t really use these schemes for domestic payments. Local digital wallets, like Bit and Paybox, are becoming increasingly common and are owned by the major banks. These are currently not offered by Adyen. Many local retailers partner with local issuers and offer branded cards. These cards are always co-branded with Visa or Mastercard and can be processed easily by Adyen. While you can still process large volumes of cards in Israel with Adyen, there are certain restrictions. We can’t onboard local merchants or offer in-person payments. We can only onboard merchants with a European Economic Area (EEA) entity and provide cross-border ecommerce payments.
